November 15, 2009 12:36 pm

Ok, so back now with an upgrade…

Unfortunately I need to reload my photos… ;-(  Entirely my own fault mind.

Doh

9:21 am

Ok, so I’ve trashed my photo gallery…

I hope to have it back up and running soon..

Deleting the backup and the back up of the back up in a cavalier fashion isn’t helping…

State of the Wirral Map

April 27, 2008 11:11 am

Open Street Map now has an easy export function which means it’s easier than ever to get images of map. More importantly you can export the XML for an area.

Here’s a state of the map for the wirral.

Safari and WP text editing

March 23, 2008 12:34 pm

Another thing that’s been bothering me since I moved to WordPress is the text editor.

It’s supposed to display as it will on the website but for some reason it was stripping out and carriage returns and presenting all my test in one block.

I tried adding the HTML codes and various other things like adding the TinyMCE advanced editor but to no avail.

Today I found out that the problem is with Safari. It doesn’t play nicely with the WordPress editor.

So I’ve switched for editing to Firefox. Unfortunately this seems less than happy to open several of the admin pages. Ho hum two steps forward, one step back.

Fixed….

9:16 am

I had noticed a problem with the sidebar not loading and sometimes needing a refresh.

I thought it might be because there were so many (12) panorama images in the header and this was slowing things down to the extent that the sidebar wasn’t loaded (partly as the sidebar loads in the other pages).

Today I loaded the latest release of the theme (vSlider from http://iRui.ac ) as it has, amongst other things, updates to the pre-rendering of corners. I thought this may also be slowing things down.

The update didn’t fix it but got me thinking that it must be within my capabilities to fix. I’m frequently proved wrong when I get this thought.

I played with some new features to limit the number of entries on the front page which are open or closed and noticed that the page was only ever loading 4 entries and stopping. It was my fourth entry which was for some reason causing the page to stop loading.

I still don’t know why as my first thought was to edit the entry and see if that changes anything. I deleted the WPG2 link to the album and re-created it. This was the only non-text element so was the most likely culprit. The page now loads properly.

However, the latest version of vSlider seems to hide the link to my photo gallery which should appear below the header. Ho hum. Two steps forward on step back.

Strange

For some reason this page only half loads on first visit and sometimes needs a refresh to see it all.

Website upgrade

December 12, 2007 10:26 am

I have for a couple of years used Gallery as the basis of this website.

Firstly by itself, but I didn’t like not being able to add words the way I liked.

Later I used phpNuke with gallery but this was far more than I wanted or needed and over complicated things.

So now my latest step is to use word press with the WPG2 addin.

This seems to work quite nicely.
